TAVI NEWS WEEKLY — 2 Nov 2026

1. What changed this week

[Edwards] EARLY TAVR economic analysis (TCT 2026, 1 Nov): in 901 patients with asymptomatic severe AS, 5-year cumulative costs were similar for early TAVI and clinical surveillance ($86,572 vs $85,044; P=0.60). Over a lifetime, early TAVI was projected to add about $4,500 and 0.3 QALYs, an ICER of $14,698 per QALY (91.3% probability of being cost-effective, US perspective). By 5 years, 95% of the surveillance arm had undergone TAVI.

[MDT] Medtronic presented the EXPAND TAVR II design and baseline characteristics at TCT (31 Oct): 692 patients with moderate AS randomised at 96 sites in 16 countries to Evolut TAVR plus GDMT vs GDMT alone; mean age 78.4, 42.3% female. No outcomes yet; Evolut in moderate AS is investigational.

[Other] SEASON-AR (TCT, 31 Oct; Circulation): in 210 patients with severe pure AR at high surgical risk or declining SAVR (18 Chinese centres), transfemoral TAVI plus GDMT cut 1-year death, disabling stroke or HF rehospitalisation vs GDMT alone (8.3% vs 24.8%; HR 0.31), mainly through fewer HF admissions. Major bleeding (9.2% vs 0) and new pacemakers (20.2% vs 2.0%) were higher with TAVI.

[Abbott] Abbott's investigational balloon-expandable BE TAVI early feasibility study was presented by Dr Susheel Kodali at TCT (1 Nov). ClinicalTrials.gov lists 11 patients enrolled; no public results yet. Investigational device, limited by US law to investigational use.
